Hey Everyone,

Looking forward to seeing you at the Granite tomorrow night. A reminder, after curling, stick around and join us for Bingo!

Congratulations to David Gallant who won last week's Darts competition. Look how excited he was!

SPRING FLING BONSPIEL

This mild weather has me thinking about spring... and that means the Spring Fling Bonspiel is right around the corner.

This event will run alongside the 2025 Canadian Pride Curling Championships in our City and promises to be an exciting event.

REGISTRATION OPENS THIS FRIDAY!!!!!!!!

Here's what you need to know:

LEAGUE UPDATES

  • NOMINATIONS NOW OPEN: As we start to look towards the final few weeks of the season, we encourage you to nominate a fellow curler for the "Dean Carlson Spirit of Curling Award". The award recognizes a member or members who exhibit exemplary sportspersonship, that are a leader both on and off the ice, embody the spirit and values of CWP, and help enrich the curling experience for our league and community. Nominations are now open and will be accepted until the end of February.

  • PLAYOFFS: The regular season will end on Tuesday, March 11th. That will be followed by two weeks of playoffs (March 18 and 25). The top four teams in each division will make the playoffs. More details to come including an updated league schedule. Reminder: For playoffs, the buzzer will ring at 9:30pm.

  • NOTICE OF AGM: The Curling With Pride AGM will be held on Tuesday, March 25th following curling.

HELP NEEDED

  • SUPPORT NATIONALS: Our league will proudly host the 2025 Canadian Pride Curling Championship and Spring Fling Bonspiel on April 3-6. This is a huge undertaking and we definitely need some help. On Tuesday, April 1st - we're asking anyone who is available - to please come down to the Granite and help us decorate and set up for the event. More details to come - but please circle the date on your calendar. We love putting on events, but they're only successful if we have people stepping up to help us turn our ideas into reality.

  • PRIZING NEEDED: Speaking of Nationals, we are hard at work securing prizes for the silent auction and raffle prizes. If you or someone you know is interested in donating a prize, please get in touch with the Nationals board (Dean, Mathieu, Trevor, David, Graham I. and Kevin).

  • JOIN THE BOARD! Love Curling With Pride and looking for a way to give back? There will be some vacancies that need to be filled for the 2025-26 CWP Executive Board. Elections will be held at our AGM on March 25th. So if you're thinking or interested in joining the board, now's the chance. Give it some thought and if you want to talk it over, we'll gladly chat!

  • BONSPIEL SUPPORT: Over the last few years, Stephen Simmons and Kris Heuven have been instrumental in reviving the Ice Breaker Bonspiel. They gave it a whole new identity and watched it blossom into one of Canada's premiere 2SLGBTQ+ bonspiels. Stephen and Kris are taking a bit of a break from organizing the bonspiel, and we'd love some volunteers to step up and help organize. If you are interested, or have some questions, please reach out to the board or David Gallant.

TEAM EDMONTON UPDATE

Curling With Pride is proud to be affiliated with Team Edmonton.

One of their groups is looking to gauge some interest from our community. Please see below:

Slow-pitch 2025 Survey for Queer and allies:
I am organizing a slow-pitch team or set of teams for those of us either in the LGBTQ2+… or their allies who would like to play some slow-pitch baseball the coming year. This is open to adults of any age and any skill level.
The tentative location is at Borden Park in Highlands, a field accessible by public transit or automobile, and just off the river bike route. A current plan is to have 5 Saturdays between May and July, 2 hours each, for us to gather and play. The intent would be to scrimmage for the first hour, play for the second hour. We’ll devise a set of rules that we can live with, the intent being to slowly develop a league that can allow us to enjoy a sport on our own terms. The only hard rule is that teams will be made up of any gender under the sun.
We will try to obtain some funding to be able to provide the basics (bats, balls, bases) and so that registration fees can be minimal. We might have to set the upper limit at about 30 players, for this year, but that will all depend on how much interest there is.
Below is the link to a survey. Please try to answer every question and be aware that you CANNOT go back to a previous question!
